Commission a Portrait – Custom Artwork from Your Photos (UK)

Turn your favourite memories into a timeless piece of art.

I enjoy capturing the personality of each subject I draw or paint. When you commission a portrait, I aim to create a piece that feels true to your requirements.

All of my work is created with professional, artist-grade materials that are lightfast, so the colors should last for many years if the piece isn’t placed in direct sunlight. For added protection, framing behind UV-resistant or “gallery” glass is recommended, and most framers carry this type of glass. (See recommended framer details below)

Step 1- Select a reference photo

To create the best possible portrait, I need a high-resolution photo with good lighting. This allows me to capture details and make your commission as realistic as possible. I’ll be happy to guide you through selecting a photo that will work via email.

For memorial drawings, I can work from older photos and will do my best to create a beautiful portrait. I will always be honest if the available images aren’t sufficient to achieve a satisfying result.

Step 2- Select portrait size 

We will also discuss which medium you prefer and whether you would like a background included in the piece. 

Commission prices do not include a frame, but I create pieces to fit standard frame sizes to help reduce additional costs. If you would like a custom size, I am happy to accommodate your request.

Deposit: Before starting work I require a 50% deposit which is non refundable. I will send a request payment link by email.

A4:  210 × 297mm - 8.3 × 11.7in

A4: Because of the level of detail that I like to achieve, this is the smallest size that I offer. I can only fit one single subject on this size.

A2: 420 × 594mm - 16.5 × 23in

A3: 297 × 420mm - 117 × 16.5in

Because of the level of detail that I like to achieve, I can only fit one single subject on these sizes.

  • 30cm x 30cm: One Subject only. Price: £250
  • 40cm x 40cm: One Subject only. Price: £300
  • 50cm x 50cm: One Subject only. Price: £350
  • 60cm x 60cm: One Subject only. Price: £450

Expert framing available

The prices quoted are per size shown include a detailed or plain background as required. Note that the cost of a frame is extra. You can select your frame using the link below. I can assist you with this process if required. 

Should you desire, I can arrange for your commission to be expertly framed. I source all of my frames from Picture Frames Express  Note that their price is what you pay. I do not add any additional costs for framing. 

Their frames are of the highest museum-grade quality, and all mounts used are also acid-free museum grade, providing the perfect presentation and protection for your treasured artwork.

You are of course welcome to source your own frame.

Step 3- My work begins

A commission can take me anywhere from 40 to over 100 hours or more to complete depending on size and complexity, so please know that I will work as quickly as I can.  Colored pencils are an especially slow medium but my medium of choice because I can achieve an incredibly fine level of detail using them.

During the process I will happily send you daily updates by email so that you can see your commission each step of the way. We can discuss any required tweaks as we go along, allowing me to complete your commission to your complete satisfaction.

Step 4- Final Review of Portrait and Shipping

When the portrait is complete, I’ll send you a photograph of the finished work for your review.  Upon your approval I will send a payment request for settlement prior to delivery.

Step 5- Shipping and Delivery 

I will ship the piece via Royal Mail, Parcel Force or courier depending on size and destination. For deliveries within a 20 mile radius of CR6 9EW I will deliver your commission in person.
