About John

I’m a UK-based artist specialising in realistic coloured pencil drawings. I create original artwork, custom portrait commissions and fine art prints, focusing on detail, texture and lifelike expression.

Why Choose My Artwork?

  • Hand-drawn using coloured pencil (no digital shortcuts)
  • Strong focus on realism, detail and expression
  • Wide subject range (pets, portraits, cars, aviation and any other suject)
  • Commissions created from your own photos

What brought me here?

Following my service in the army, and with a lifelong love of art, I went on to become a semi-professional artist, honing my skills and developing a unique artistic voice whilst working at my day job and raising a family.

In 2021, during a prolonged battle with my mental and physical health, at the suggestion of my wife Amanda, I took the leap to become a full-time professional artist, and I've never looked back.

My journey is fuelled by a commitment to continuous improvement and a desire to create art that truly resonates with people.

My process

Each piece is built up in layers using professional coloured pencils or graphite pencils on high-quality paper, allowing for fine detail, depth and realism. I work carefully from reference photos to capture both accuracy and character. For more information about how I work view my commision process

"I really can't thank you enough for the outstanding drawing of my three lads. I didn't have a photograph of them all together so I have you 3 photos and you came up trumps. You're amazing. "

"Art is good for my mental health. When I draw I completely zone out and all the anxiety goes."

What about you? Art for good mental health...

Creating art brings profound joy by offering a meditative, "flow" state that reduces stress, lowers cortisol, and boosts dopamine. It allows for authentic self-expression, emotional release, and personal growth without needing external validation. Engaging in creative processes transforms, heals, and empowers individuals, regardless of skill level.

Good luck in your journey to a better place xx
